DescriptionMoon Elves are quite strange. Rumored to be descendants of the Sun Elves, but seen as 'defects' and cast away, left to wander the lands as loners. Like the Sun Elves, they require the sun's rays to survive, but with their eyes being light sensitive, they adapted by taking in the reflective sunlight from the moon. Over time this changed their appearance, as well as their habits. Only coming out at night, they travel the regions under the moon to soak up its life giving light. This practice of wandering at night partly came from discovering that they were often mistaken for Quietus… a race most are afraid of, which gives the Moon Elves protection through fear. Since Moon Elves have dangerous enemies… keeping people away is a safe tactic to use. |

Unique QuirksEars: All elves have elongated ears with pointed/ticked points at the top. Some are subtle, and some are dramatically long and curved; but all are noticeable without a headpiece covering them. Skin Glow: Skin: Soft silver or white glow to their skin, making them mistaken for Quietus quite often. Eye Tone: Pink, indicator of their birth defect. Their eyes can turn black and pupil-less at night as if the moon's shadow fills them, a defense mechanism they adapted over time to help hide their identity. This is done at will however and not automatic. LanguageCommon Elven, Ancient Elven, HumanAge Ratio1 HY : 3 AY Immortal: HY ceases at 50. |

Reference MaterialThe following information is NOT required for your character. | |
Cultural PreferencesAround Varlonan, these are the typical aspects of this race's lifestyle preferences.Weapons: They prefer something elven made, usually ranged; or magic. Armor: Any elven made armor. Currency: They have no preferred currency since they travel a lot, and will adapt to whichever culture they are currently in. Diet: Omnivore. Attire: Thin, wispy clothing. They travel a lot at night, and while they are moving they do not get cold. Even with dark colored clothing, they are unable to hide their glow, so they tend to wear white or light colors to help brighten the glow instead. Environment: Outdoors in twilight hours. Homeland: Pennae Angelus (All elves originated from here and separated accordingly.) |
RelationshipsFriends: A friend of a Moon Elf is a treasure to them. Outcasts and anti-social, they rarely stray out to find friends nor do they attend a lot of social gatherings unless it is to hide away and observe from a distance. They however are drawn to beauty, peace, and other people who are enjoying themselves. Foe: Enemies are aplenty for a Moon Elf. They get mistaken for Quietus (at night), or sometimes Namuh (at day.) The Drow Elves, Vampires, Demons, and others that roam the night do not trust or like the Moon Elf since they are a beacon to a location and those races prefer to be incognito. Humans and Dwarves find them frightening because of their glow, not understanding how it is natural, unnerving their sense of comfort. It's easy to be the enemy of a Moon Elf, regardless if they deserve it or not. Children: Moon Elves are born in two ways. First, they can be born from two Moon Elf parents, then raised with love and care by those parents. Second, they are born as a genetic 'defect' of Sun Elf parents, then either killed, cast away or put into slavery. Territory: They wander in the nights across various lands, not settling down in one place for too long. With so many enemies, they cannot afford to stay in a place where people could easily find them. Generally they sleep during the day, making temporary shelters in caves, or sleeping in trees. A common living quarter for those few who settle down are cave dwellings behind waterfalls, allowing seclusion, protection, and natural resources. |
HistoryIt isn't a secret that the Moon Elves have many enemies, or the fact that they are a genetic mistake from the Sun Elves (so they say) but there is more than that to the Moon Elves. It comes from their glowing skin and pink eyes... rumored to have come from an ancient Goddess long since dead and forgotten. There is a passage of history that spoke of a beautiful Goddess that fell in love with the moon. She adored the moon for it's beauty, seeing it like a pearl in the sky to guide sailors safely through the seas, or light the shadowed forest paths for the animals. This Goddess loved the moon so very much, that she wanted to duplicate it's beauty somehow in a living creature. If she could do this she thought, then everyone would love and adore this race the same way she loved the moon. So while the Sun Elves believe that the Moon Elves are just a mistake and defect of their own pure blood, there are also those who believe that the Moon Elves may have been the creation of the ancient Goddess. In her desire to duplicate the moon's beauty, she would ensure that the creature she created would have neutral tones similar to the night's sky. Their very skin would have an ethereal glow similar to the moon's light, and their eyes would glow from the inside out to look like distant stars. Due to the light coming from the inside, bleeding out through the black pupil, it actually created the strange pink tone to the eyes, the only thing not a neutral tone on them. It's hard to say which tale is the real one, but the stigma remains and if the Goddess's wish was for everyone to view her creation as beautiful... she'd be quite disappointed to see the detriment to the race and the way they were treated! |
