What is a Mythical?
If you were unable to find a race that really fits the character you want to portray in our game, then this is the option you might want to consider: Mythicals. With this option, you can create just about ANY race you want for your character. There are a few rules and requirements before being able to use this option however, and it comes with penalties, but for those who are extra creative (or extra picky) about their race, a Mythical will prove to be useful for you.

Unlike the hatred and mistreatment of the Halflings, Mythicals are often feared and respected. The reason for this is because there is very little information about them... they rarely have a mass base of their own kind. How they come to be is a mystery, giving them a nickname among the races of 'Mythicals' to describe them. Rumors fly about their origin, ranging from a unique or botched creation of the Gods, to a drastic mutation of a halfling.

These beings can be a mix of existing races with their own twist, or something completely their own that hasn't been seen before. That is why they are feared and respected, because some want to study them while others want to eliminate them. How they interact with others is as unique with each person as with their race. No one knows where they come from, how they grew up, or what their morals are unless they tell you. You'll simply need to stalk them or befriend them if you really want to know who they are.

Tips for Creation

This race comes with handicaps so that everyone is not encouraged to create a Mythical instead of an existing race. Despite the handicaps, you can still have a successful and powerful character if you play them right. They do not have as many restrictions as other races which can be to your advantage. Be sure to be thorough in your description of them, otherwise people wont know much about your character. Come up with a history and origin of how your race came to be a Mythical, make sure their appearance has a unique aspect to them and aren't just an exact copy of another race, and be ready to have to repeat yourself through storyline many times when telling others about your character... don't expect them to just know. This is your chance to be original and unique, and you should do so as much as possible.

Why does there have to be restrictions and penalties?

The world of Varlonan was created with the structured races in mind that we provided for play. Throwing any random race into the world can cause hardships and confusion. So we didn't want to be so restrictive as to make everyone pick ONLY the races we made, but we also didn't want to encourage that EVERYONE make a unique race. So we put some penalties into creating a unique race as a discouragement, and to have people give the pre-made races a second look to decide if the penalty is worth having the unique race. It's only a small penalty and will really only matter to people who intend to be very stat-heavy. It's not a punishment!

Structured Section

This section provides the rules, stats, and general requirements for playing this race.
Everything in this section IS required for your character when you register.

Unique Quirks

The race must have unique traits to their appearance. They are not allowed to be duplicated from an existing race, or too similar. Halfling style appearances are acceptable, but we still encourage you to have something unique. If we find that your proposed Mythical is too similar to an existing race, we'll ask you to revise or give you some suggestions. A special note we'll also say is that we are very strict on undead submissions, since we don't want people using Mythicals as a way to get around other restrictions, such as undead not being starter races. Other than that, feel free to get creative. Don't forget to give us a name for what your race is called.

Age Ratio

(HY indicates physical appearance, AY is how long they have lived.)

Your choice, use other races as a guide if needed. Pick your "AY" and "HY". It cannot be more extreme than any existing race.

To Procreate, Partner Must Be:
Partner must be similar in anatomy, such as humanoid. Age of maturity is 18 in relation to HY/AY chosen.

Roll (pregnancy):
No roll necessary, 1 child reproduced only. If by egg, follow 'Dragon' or 'Merfolk' guidelines.

Gender (d2 roll; d3 optional if desired.):
1 = Female
2 = Male
3 = Neither or Both

Child’s race:
If one or both parents are a Mythical, the child will also be a Mythical (created by the parents), OR, the child can merely take on appearance-only traits from the parents but be created as a Halfling of existing races.

  • Race must fit into setting and timeline. Race also cannot be a God or Demi-God as those are accomplishments achievable by other means later in the game for all players.

  • Creation of race may be denied by the game staff for any reason without explanation if needed. However we WILL work with you to help you get close to your desired race.

  • Children produced from a Mythical parent can take on traits of the Mythical and it is up to the parents to choose to create that child as a Mythical or as another existing race.

  • To create a Mythical, you must either have direct permission from the game staff first by emailing us; OR, if you currently have a Level 5 character of another existing race, you are now allowed and able to proceed without permission. This is so that we can know you can handle the difficulties that come with playing a unique race.

  • You agree and accept that by having a Mythical race, there are times in the game that you might get excluded from certain events, that the GM's in charge of events always have the right and permission to make decisions for your character when conflict arises due to the race, and that just because you create a unique race doesn't mean another person can't copy it. If a player finds your created race interesting, they will have permission to create one of their own similar or exactly the same as the one you created.
