What is a Mythical?
If you were unable to find a race that really fits the character you want to portray in our game, then this is the option you might want to consider: Mythicals. With this option, you can create just about ANY race you want for your character. There are a few rules and requirements before being able to use this option however, and it comes with penalties, but for those who are extra creative (or extra picky) about their race, a Mythical will prove to be useful for you. Description
Unlike the hatred and mistreatment of the Halflings, Mythicals are often feared and respected. The reason for this is because there is very little information about them... they rarely have a mass base of their own kind. How they come to be is a mystery, giving them a nickname among the races of 'Mythicals' to describe them. Rumors fly about their origin, ranging from a unique or botched creation of the Gods, to a drastic mutation of a halfling. These beings can be a mix of existing races with their own twist, or something completely their own that hasn't been seen before. That is why they are feared and respected, because some want to study them while others want to eliminate them. How they interact with others is as unique with each person as with their race. No one knows where they come from, how they grew up, or what their morals are unless they tell you. You'll simply need to stalk them or befriend them if you really want to know who they are.
This race comes with handicaps so that everyone is not encouraged to create a Mythical instead of an existing race. Despite the handicaps, you can still have a successful and powerful character if you play them right. They do not have as many restrictions as other races which can be to your advantage. Be sure to be thorough in your description of them, otherwise people wont know much about your character. Come up with a history and origin of how your race came to be a Mythical, make sure their appearance has a unique aspect to them and aren't just an exact copy of another race, and be ready to have to repeat yourself through storyline many times when telling others about your character... don't expect them to just know. This is your chance to be original and unique, and you should do so as much as possible. The world of Varlonan was created with the structured races in mind that we provided for play. Throwing any random race into the world can cause hardships and confusion. So we didn't want to be so restrictive as to make everyone pick ONLY the races we made, but we also didn't want to encourage that EVERYONE make a unique race. So we put some penalties into creating a unique race as a discouragement, and to have people give the pre-made races a second look to decide if the penalty is worth having the unique race. It's only a small penalty and will really only matter to people who intend to be very stat-heavy. It's not a punishment!
