(Click the banner above to continue to the site.) What is Mystic Worlds? This is a text based, multi-player, online role play game based on the Delphi site. Our role play is done in chat and forums. This site is here to provide information about the game and its system. The actual play takes place on Delphi here. To learn more about the game itself, click the banner above. What is a role play game (RPG)? Role playing is a form of entertainment where people act out being a ‘character’ within a world created for them by a Game Master. There are many forms of role play, but ours is based in text. We commonly explain it as ‘acting’ and ‘writing’ at the same, co-existing and interacting with others doing the same. Our game is structured, which means there is a format to follow for certain scenarios like battle or questing. General play is free-form however, and players are welcome to create the stories they prefer as long as they stick to our setting. What is your setting? Mystic Worlds is based loosely off the European Renaissance Era. We have our own history and time frame, as well as a ‘fantasy’ element; meaning magic, mythical creatures, and ethereal settings. The game will have primitive modern technology just starting to be introduced (such as guns, cannons, and early mechanics) but overall won’t have anything past what you would expect to be from the medieval times. What is the difference between structured and free form? A structured game is like DnD… the questing and battle systems have certain criteria you have to meet such as rolling dice or using stats on your character sheet. We’ve made sure not to have too advanced of a system that newer players would have a hard time learning, so don’t be intimidated just because we’re structured. You can easily play in our game without ever registering and still have fun; but you miss out on a whole lot of activity by not having a character sheet. Free-form play means that your character can be whoever they want and have any type abilities you desire. While we allow general free-form play inside the room and stories on the board, we DO favor the players who register and if there is conflict regarding confrontations or the questioning of abilities, the person with the registered sheet will most likely win out. In a structured game, its not exactly polite to act like your unregistered character is more powerful than someone else who has devoted a lot of hard work to leveling their character. If I don’t register, what would I be missing? A lot! First and most basic, is not having a character sheet. As you’ll see when you go further into our site, there is all kinds of stuff you can do with a registered character. If its on your sheet, we recognize it. Registered characters get to take part in quests, with fun adventures run by our game staff and earn cool items to use or gold that they can spend in the market. Registered characters get to learn a lot richer story about the game because they’ll come across instances and events that touch on various NPC’s and lands, building the history they can work with. Being registered lets you work toward achievements, and goals that free-form play rarely gets to have. The feeling of accomplishment you get in a structured game is like nothing else! All that work and time, rewarded richly and building your status and reputation with the other players in the game. Its one thing to be “powerful” right off the bat, and a whole other when other players actually watch you grow and even participate with you in becoming a great hero or villain in the world. What is a character sheet for? It keeps track of your character’s achievements, abilities and items. You can also use it to tell others about your character’s history, personality, dress style, likes and dislikes, and share a picture of them. Our character sheets also have color styles you can pick to make your character stand out even more. Dice intimidate me… what if I can’t figure out the system? Our staff are prepared to work patiently with you as you get to know the system. The game was created by someone with experience in quite a few different structured games, and created this one based off that experience to be easy to learn. There will be a LOT of optional choices for people more comfortable with the system, but for those not as comfortable, the basic necessities will be simple and easy to learn after a little trial and error. If you ever have questions on what to roll, feel free to PM our GMs. As you start off, read the directions on the site: if it says don’t read further unless you are comfortable with the system… DON’T read further, lol. The site is user friendly and will guide you where you need to go to find what you need. I have more questions! You can always contact us in the forum, or email us if you have more questions. No question is a dumb question, and we were ALL new to role play or structured games once. Mystic Worlds looks forward to you joining us and sharing your talent. Let’s have some fun! |
